Bicycle Seconds

Ever since it was released by USPCC, many card collectors have been asking exactly what are the Bicycle Seconds. Common questions like, "what does the word Seconds mean?" to "Are they better than regular Rider Backs?" are being asked by card enthusiasts all over the world. Allow us to explain in layman terms on what the Seconds are all about.

To put in simple terms, the Seconds were actually meant to be produced as standard Rider Backs (they even share the same Rider Back design) but during the production process, some errors or minor printing defects were present and because of the strict quality control exercised by USPCC, these cards couldn't quite make the cut to be sold as regular Rider Backs. Hence, these cards are re-labeled and sold as Bicycle Seconds.

There are several defects being observed. For our case, we actually opened up one of our decks and compare the Seconds to a regular Rider Back and here's what we found:

Both decks are absolutely brand new and taken as it is out-of-the-box. As you can see, the Seconds (the deck on the right), as an entire deck, is 2-3 cards shorter in horizontal height when stacked against a regular Rider Back. Apart from the Jokers, guarantee card and advertising cards, no other cards were removed from either decks (all 52 cards intact). We believe for this particular case, the defect could be due to the thickness of the paper.

Using the same pair of decks, we removed the Ace of Spades and placed them side by side. It was quite apparently that the left corner pip on the Seconds is off-centered as compared to the regular Rider Back. We drew a straight line across to help you identify the defect better.

All in all, the Seconds are not supposed to be sold higher than a deck of regular Rider Back due to the defects present in these decks. That being said, these decks can very well serve a few good rounds of poker and is perfectly ideal for card collectors as an inexpensive addition to their collection or use them for casual playing.
